Resiliência

With profound humanity, Brazilians from all walks of life share stories which reflect the realities and transformations underway in their country. This exhibition is drawn from the stunning intangibles collection of São Paulo's Museu da Pessoa. The exhibition unfolds as visitors stroll through the space and come into contact with a range of Portugese-inflected voices that, one by one, tell their stories of life in Brazil. Video documents lasting 15 to 20 minutes each bear witness to Brazil's cultural and regional diversity. The exhibition revolves around five themes: Identity. Over the centuries, indigenous, African, and Portuguese cultures have left their imprint on the social fabric of communities all across Brazil. They have become the markers of Brazilian identity. Tension. Violence, worker exploitation, racial and sexual discrimination, illiteracy, child labour, landlessness and homelessness—misery has many faces in Brazil. Initiatives. Throughout Brazil, individuals and communities are taking action to improve their personal, artistic, cultural, family, and social lives. Urban life. In less than a century, over 80% of Brazil's rural population has left the country for the city, settling in huge districts on the urban periphery. Creativity. Brazilian artists—poets, writers, journalists, event organizers—share their life stories..
